Coping with Changing Ontologies in a Distributed Environment

چکیده

We discuss the problems associated with versioning ontologies in distributed environments. This is an important issue because ontologies can be of great use in structuring and querying intemet information, but many of the Intemet’s characteristics, such as distributed ownership, rapid evolution, and heterogeneity, make ontology management difficult. We present SHOE, a web-based knowledge representation language that supports multiple versions of ontologies. We then discuss the features of SHOE that address ontology versioning, the affects of ontology revision on SHOE web pages, and methods for implementing ontology integration using SHOE’s extension and version mechanisms.

Process Based Data Logistics: Data Integration for Healthcare Applications

Data integration in medical applications is a crucial and sensitive task. It turns out that there are rigid factors like heterogeneous, distributed data sources, security, and complex, dynamically changing application requirements that require a highly sophisticated and flexible data integration concept which – in a final stage – has to cover the whole healthcare landscape. We have developed a ...

Distributed Ontology Development Environment for Multi-agent Systems

In this paper, we propose a new environment that supports distributed ontology development for multi-agent systems. In our distributed ontology development environment (Donden), users program agents can build ontologies locally which can be associated to each other. Donden consists ontology browser which is provided for each user and ontology server which is provided for a group of users which ...

Distributed and Collaborative Construction of Ontologies Using Hozo

This paper discusses Hozo’s functionality for supporting distributed and collaborative construction of ontologies. In a distributed environment, each ontology is revised asynchronously by different developers. In such a situation, one of the key issues is the maintenance of consistency among inter-dependent ontologies. In order to realize consistent distributed development of ontologies, Hozo p...

Policies for role based agents in environments with changing ontologies

Software agents try to achieve the goals of roles that they have in an environment. It is supposed that the dynamic structure of role based agents can be connected with updatable domain ontologies of the environment. Ontology evolution can cause the update of agent behaviors or access restrictions to ontological elements. So regulation for the agent behaviors may be needed. Our motivation is to...

ReWiRe: Creating Interactive Pervasive Systems that cope with Changing Environments by Rewiring

The increasing complexity of pervasive computing environments puts the current software development methods to the test. There is a large variation in different types of hardware that need to be addressed. Besides, there is no guarantee the environment does not evolve, making the software developed for the initial environment deprecated and in need for updates or reconfiguration. Software deplo...
